Zillow says home values up 6% in US, up 15% in Seattle

Zillow Inc. said home values have risen 6 percent from a year earlier in the United States, and they’ve risen more than 15 percent during the same period in Seattle.

The Seattle online real estate company said this is the first time since 2006 that the national home appreciation percentage has hit the 6 percent mark. The median national home value is $161,600, according to Zillow (NASDAQ: Z).

In Seattle, the median home value in July was $302,600, up 2.3 percent from June and up 15.3 percent from July 2012.

"After three straight months of annual home value appreciation above 5 percent, the U.S. housing market recovery has proven it is on very sound footing," said Zillow’s Stan Humphries, in a statement.
