Bank of America offering mortgage modification workshop for BofA borrowers

Bank of America customers struggling to pay their mortgages in the Puget Sound area may be able to get some assistance next week when the bank holds a free three-day mortgage outreach program to help distressed homeowners determine what their options are.
Participants at the at event, held at Seattle’s DoubleTree Hilton Airport, will go through an educational workshop on the types of assistance available and will meet with a housing counselor from a local nonprofit and one of the 50 bank employees that will be on hand for the event.
“We service about 300,000 home loans in Washington,” said BofA national mortgage outreach executive Tamika Eubanks. “We feel about 10 percent of our borrowers require assistance to avoid foreclosure.”
So far, Bank of America has modified about 24,000 loans in Washington state, Eubanks said.
Attendees will need to bring a set of financial documents with them, such as their most recent tax return and a pay stub. The documents they will need to bring are listed on the bank’swebsite. If an attendee has all of his or her financial documents, it may be possible to complete a loan modification on the spot, according to Eubanks.
Participants should plan on spending about three to four hours at the event, Eubanks said. About 200 bank customers have signed up so far.
The mortgage relief event starts on Tuesday and runs through Thursday. The program begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 8 p.m., with the last appointments at 6:30 p.m. It will be held at the DoubleTree Hilton Airport at 18740 International Blvd. in Seattle. Parking is complimentary.
The event is only for Bank of America customers, who may register online or by calling toll-free 1-855-201-7426.
Those who can’t attend the event can also get help at the BofA Customer Assistance Center at 800 Fifth Avenue in downtown Seattle.
