Seattle housing 12th-most expensive in U.S.

With a median value of $309,600, Seattle-area homes are the 12th-most expensive homes in the country.
Homes are more expensive in California’s major metropolitan areas than almost anywhere else in America, according to research by On Numbers, the research division of American City Business Journals, which analyzed newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2011 American Community Survey.
The five runners-up for high-end housing include three more California metros. Second through sixth, respectively, are San Francisco-Oakland, Honolulu, Bridgeport-Stamford, Conn., Los Angeles and Oxnard-Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Seattle fell just behind the Boston area, at $356,100 and just in front of Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown, N.Y., at $279,400.
