Seattle area stays No. 15 in U.S. for population

With 3.56 million people as of Dec. 1, the Seattle area remains the fifteenth-largest U.S. metropolitan area in the U.S., gaining about 127,000 people in the past two years.
Provo, Utah, is climbing the U.S. population ladder faster than any other major metropolitan area, according to research by On Numbers, the research division of American City Business Journals.
Provo has moved up five places during the past 32 months, according to new population estimates generated by On Numbers. Provo ranked 98th among all metros when the U.S. Census Bureauconducted its most recent headcount on April 1, 2010. It’s now in 93rd place, based on projections for Dec. 1, 2012.
Spokane fell one spot to No. 108 on the list, despite adding 8,250 people.
The Tri-Cities area of Kenniwick-Pasco-Richland moved up to No. 169 from No. 178 by adding 23,280 people for a total of 276,520 people.
