Seattle’s 98116 zip code, which includes the West Seattle Junction business district and Alki, was the city’s most-searched zip code for home listings in August, Realtor.com reported Wednesday. Ballard (98107) and Magnolia (98199) were second and third in the city.
But West Seattle was actually 20th in the Seattle metropolitan area, taking in King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties. The top zip codes in the area were 98275 (Mukilteo), 98040 (Mercer Island) and 98004 (Bellevue).
The Seattle area was the 53rd-most-searched market in August. Chicago, Las Vegas and Detroit topped the list.
Realtor.com also reported that the median home list prices in the Seattle area was $319,900 in August, unchanged from July and down 7.3 percent from August 2010. The national median list price was $189,900, up 0.5 percent from a year earlier.
The Seattle area had 11,083 homes for sale in August, down 28.8 percent from a year earlier. Nationwide inventory was 2.27 million, down 19 percent.
The median time a home had been on the market was 74 days in the Seattle area and 103 days nationwide, up 8.8 percent and 6.2 percent, respectively, from July.
